Please see article published on MiningMx on Monday 7th Sep – http://www.miningmx.com/news/energy/eskom-plan-needs-back-up.htm

My 2 cents on the article is as follows….the article focuses on Eskom’s nwe build program highlighting the energy requirements South Africa needs over the next few decades.

What is interesting too note is that the entire plan has not been finalised, whilst there is building currently being undertaken it is clearly evident that there is no overall plan with regards to new capacity.

The article further states that the need to import electricity in the future will be a certainty, whereas we are currently an exporter of electricity to our neighbouring countries.

This article is contradictory to Eskom’s current activities with regards to price escalation – they have already tabled their requests to NERSA for their electricity price increases for the next 3 years (approx 150%) yet there is no clear plan in place for what that money is actually being used for.

Also I have also learned from sources that the increases in 2008 & 2009 was NOT for new buildings, they had misled the public on the use of those funds.

Just another interesting development in this on-going saga.
